Herpetology is a branch of zoology dealing with reptiles and amphibians. This includes snake behavior. The snake expert can be called upon when a person finds a snake in his or her home or suffers from a bite. Snake and reptile experts have years of experience working with snakes and have a wide range of expertise including:
- serpentine behavior
- biological device of snakes
- catching snakes
- snake venom types and effects
- how to reduce the likelihood of a snake bite
Risk mitigation and management team is part of what a snake expert brings to the table. They are trained to work with snakes. Most of the specialists specializing in snakes and reptiles also have a broad knowledge of the natural sciences as it is a related branch of knowledge. They may also have practical experience in zootechnics, systems biology research, animal health, and reptile dietary habits.
Such experts are used in a variety of ways. For example, they can provide expert judgment in a lawsuit involving snake poisoning or a snake bite.
They can also work as researchers in a zoo where they monitor reptile behavior to identify potential medical problems, changes in behavior, eating habits and to ensure general well-being.
Snake experts are also involved in evaluating potential endangered species of snakes and whether a company or person has violated an endangered species law.
